Location
The Sheraton Lima Historic Center is located near Lima’s Plaza de Armas and the Government Palace in the historic center. The Cathedral of Lima, the San Francisco Monastery, and the Chinatown district are within walking distance. Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) is approximately 30 minutes by car. Miraflores, Lima’s modern beachfront district with the best restaurants, is about 25 minutes south by taxi.
The Property
The Sheraton Lima is a large convention-style hotel that has served as a Lima landmark for years. The lobby is grand with marble floors and contemporary furnishings, which is the softened version of what this building actually is: a 20-storey brutalist concrete tower by architect Ricardo Jaxa-Malachowski Benavides, opened on 1 March 1973 as part of the Lima Civic Center on the grounds of the former Lima Penitentiary. It has defined the downtown skyline for half a century. It traded as the Sheraton Lima Hotel & Convention Center until August 2022, when the name changed to tie the hotel to the historic district rather than its conference business — many booking sites still carry the old name. The pool is outdoors and — this is the trap — open only from December to March, per Marriott’s own listing. Book outside those months and it is closed. There is a fitness centre and a spa/salon, plus 3,603 square metres of event space across nine rooms, the largest of them Le Meridien at 1,228 square metres, seating 660 theatre-style. While not cutting-edge, it is clean, secure, and well-run — important qualities in Lima’s historic center.

Standard King
The Standard King room is spacious and clean with a comfortable king bed, work desk, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, and coffee maker. The decor is standard Sheraton — neutral and corporate. Higher floors offer views of the city center and surrounding hills.

The hotel serves a solid breakfast buffet with both Peruvian and international options. The fresh tropical fruits and Peruvian coffee are highlights. Lima is one of the world’s great food cities, so venture out for lunch and dinner.
Amenities
One live caveat worth knowing before you book: the restaurant is operating out of a second-floor space while its permanent home is renovated. The kitchen, led by Chef Rodrigo Naranjo, runs 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with breakfast and Peruvian signature dishes at dinner, dress casual. The Executive Lounge, which Marriott describes as having panoramic city views, is complimentary for Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elite members plus one guest — the single most valuable perk at this property. Parking is USD 8 an hour, 28 a day or 100 a week, with EV charging available. Marriott does not publish a total room count for this hotel and third-party sources disagree badly, ranging from 384 to 431, so treat any specific figure you see elsewhere with suspicion.
Getting There
Jorge Chávez International is about 11 kilometres away, which in Lima traffic means anything from 25 minutes to well over an hour — leave early. The location is the reason to stay here: Marriott’s own nearby list runs to the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco, the Lima Municipal Theater, MALI (the Art Museum of Lima), the Magic Circuit of Water and the Real Plaza shopping centre, and the Cathedral of Lima and Chinatown are both walkable. Walk the historic centre in daylight and take a taxi after dark.
Bottom Line
The Sheraton Lima Historic Center is a dependable base for exploring Lima’s colonial center. The location near the Plaza de Armas is convenient for historical sightseeing, and the hotel provides the security, cleanliness, and reliability that travelers expect from a Sheraton. It is not a destination hotel, but for business travelers and tourists who want a trustworthy base in the historic center, it serves its purpose well.
