Location

The Westin at The Woodlands sits at Waterway Square Place in the heart of The Woodlands, the upscale master-planned community about 30 miles north of downtown Houston. The hotel overlooks the scenic Woodlands Waterway, a canal-side promenade lined with restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion (a major concert venue) and The Woodlands Mall are nearby. George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is about 25 minutes south. This is a car-dependent location, but the immediate Waterway Square area is walkable and lively.

The Property

The Westin at The Woodlands is a modern tower that feels more upscale than the typical suburban Westin. The lobby features contemporary design with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the waterway. A resort-style outdoor pool, well-equipped WestinWORKOUT fitness center, and spa services are available. The property benefits enormously from its Waterway Square location — step outside and you’re on a vibrant restaurant row with water features and landscaped paths.

Check-In

Check-in was smooth and welcoming. The staff were friendly and provided a rundown of the Waterway area dining options. Marriott Bonvoy status was recognized with a room upgrade and late checkout.

Deluxe King

The Deluxe King room features Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed, a spacious work area, comfortable seating, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Rooms facing the waterway offer pleasant views of the canal and surrounding restaurant terraces below. The room is well-appointed with a Keurig coffee maker, minibar, smart TV, and quality linens throughout. The contemporary Texas-inspired decor feels fresh and appropriate for the setting.

Bathroom

A modern bathroom with walk-in rain shower, single vanity with stone countertop, and Westin’s White Tea bath products. Well-lit, clean, and comfortable — the Westin standard executed reliably.

Restaurants & Bars

Sorriso Modern Italian

The hotel’s signature restaurant serves Italian-inspired dishes in a contemporary setting overlooking the waterway. The quality is above average for a hotel restaurant, with a good wine list and attentive service. That said, the Waterway Square area surrounding the hotel offers numerous excellent independent restaurants within a two-minute walk.

Bottom Line

The Westin at The Woodlands delivers an elevated suburban hotel experience thanks to its waterway setting and the surrounding restaurant and entertainment scene. For business travelers visiting the Energy Corridor or Woodlands-area offices, or concert-goers at the Mitchell Pavilion, this is the best hotel option in the area. The Heavenly Bed and resort-style pool add genuine comfort value.

Cash rates typically range from $180–$280/night. As a Category 5 Marriott Bonvoy property, free nights cost approximately 30,000–40,000 points (dynamic pricing). At $220/night and 35,000 points, that’s 0.63 cents per point — above the 0.5cpp Marriott threshold. A reasonable points redemption, particularly during major events at the Mitchell Pavilion when rates increase.
