Location
Hyatt on the Bund occupies a prime position on the northern section of Shanghai’s famous Bund waterfront, overlooking the Huangpu River and the dazzling Pudong skyline. The hotel sits at the quieter end of the Bund, away from the main tourist crowds but still walkable to the historic architecture of the southern Bund. The Nanjing Road shopping district is about 15 minutes on foot, and Pudong International Airport (PVG) is approximately 45 minutes by car or 90 minutes via the metro.
The Property
Hyatt on the Bund comprises twin towers — East and West — connected by a grand lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Huangpu River. The design is bold and contemporary with dramatic lighting, modern art installations, and a sense of theatrical grandeur. The hotel houses 620 rooms and suites, six restaurants and bars, an indoor pool, a comprehensive spa, and a fitness center. The rooftop terrace (Vue Bar) is the crown jewel — a 33rd-floor open-air deck with sweeping views of both the historic Bund and the Pudong skyline.
Check-In
Check-in is efficient with professional, English-speaking staff. Globalist members receive reliable recognition — upgrades to Bund-view or higher-floor rooms are common. The concierge team is excellent and can help arrange everything from Bund walking tours to day trips to Suzhou and Hangzhou.
Bund View King
The Bund View King room in the East Tower is the room to book. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Pudong skyline — the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, and Jin Mao Tower create one of the most famous urban panoramas in the world. The room itself is spacious with a contemporary design, comfortable king bed, work desk, seating area, minibar, and Nespresso machine. The decor is sleek and modern with subtle Chinese design elements.
Bathroom
The bathroom is generously sized with marble finishes, a deep soaking tub, separate walk-in rain shower, dual vanities, and quality bath amenities. The tub in some room categories is positioned by the window with river views — soaking in a hot bath while watching the Pudong skyline light up at dusk is an unforgettable Shanghai moment.
Views
The Bund-facing rooms deliver one of the great hotel views in Asia. By day, the Pudong skyline rises like a futuristic city across the river. At night, the entire panorama illuminates in a spectacular light show. West Tower rooms face the city side and lack the iconic view — insist on an East Tower Bund-view room.
Restaurants & Bars
Xindalu China Kitchen (Breakfast & Dinner)
The hotel’s Chinese restaurant serves authentic regional cuisine in a contemporary setting. Breakfast features an excellent dim sum selection alongside congee, noodles, and fresh tropical fruits. Dinner showcases Shanghainese specialties — xiao long bao (soup dumplings) and braised pork belly are standouts.
Vue Bar
The 33rd-floor rooftop bar is the hotel’s signature venue and one of Shanghai’s most celebrated rooftop bars. Craft cocktails, Champagne, and a tapas menu are served against a 360-degree panorama of the Bund, Pudong, and the Huangpu River. An essential Shanghai experience, hotel guest or not.
Bottom Line
Hyatt on the Bund delivers one of the great hotel experiences in Shanghai — the Bund-view rooms provide a front-row seat to one of the world’s most iconic skylines, the restaurants are excellent, and the rooftop Vue Bar is an essential Shanghai experience. The hotel’s northern Bund location offers a quieter alternative to the crowded southern section while remaining walkable to all the action. For Hyatt loyalists, this is one of the most rewarding properties in China.
Value
| Cash rate | ¥1,000–2,000 / night |
|---|---|
| Award cost | 17,000–23,000 · Cat 5 |
| Implied cpp | 1.00¢ |
Cash rates at Hyatt on the Bund average ¥1,000-¥2,000/night ($140-$280 USD). As a Category 5 Hyatt property, standard award nights cost 17,000-23,000 points. At an average cash rate of $200, a 20,000-point redemption yields approximately 1.00 cents per point — below the 1.8cpp threshold. Like many Asian Hyatts, the cash rates are reasonable enough that paying cash is often the smarter play. During Shanghai’s peak periods (October Golden Week, major trade shows), rates climb and points value improves. Book Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai through Scott & Thomas
