Location
The Hyatt Regency Houston Galleria is located on West Alabama Street, steps from the Galleria — Houston’s premier shopping destination with over 400 stores and restaurants. The hotel is in the heart of the Uptown/Galleria district, surrounded by dining options and corporate offices. Downtown Houston is about 20 minutes west, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is approximately 35 minutes north.
The Property
The Hyatt Regency Houston Galleria is not a conversion — it opened on 16 October 2015 as new construction, the ninth Hyatt-branded property in the Houston area, and it shows in the bones. It runs 325 rooms including 20 suites over 14 stories, and forms part of the 7.6-acre Galleria Plaza development alongside retail, luxury apartments and office towers. The Urban Star restaurant, bar and market were refreshed in summer 2022. The lobby features contemporary Texas-modern design with warm wood accents and natural stone. The heated outdoor pool is on the third floor rather than the roof, and it is open year-round — a real advantage in Houston, where shoulder-season swimming is the norm. It caters primarily to business travelers during the week and Galleria shoppers on weekends.
Check-In
Check-in is efficient with solid Globalist recognition — upgrades to higher floors or suites are common. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the Galleria area’s dining options.
Regency King
The Regency King room is spacious with a modern design — clean lines, quality furnishings, a comfortable king bed, work desk, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering city views. The renovation brought the rooms up to current Hyatt standards with USB charging ports, a mini-fridge, and a Keurig coffee maker. The rooms are quiet despite the busy Galleria neighborhood.
Bathroom
The bathroom features modern finishes with a walk-in rain shower, single vanity, and Pharmacopia amenities. Clean and well-designed, consistent with the hotel’s overall renovation quality.
Restaurants & Bars
Urban Star (Breakfast)
Standard Hyatt breakfast buffet with Texan touches — breakfast tacos, huevos rancheros alongside the usual eggs and pastries. Solid but not exceptional. The Galleria area offers countless alternatives within walking distance.
Amenities
Food and drink all carry one name: Urban Star Restaurant does contemporary Southern with regionally sourced ingredients across breakfast, lunch and dinner; Urban Star Bar pours cocktails built on Texas spirits; and Urban Star Market handles Starbucks coffee and grab-and-go from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Ranch Water Pool & Bar serves the third-floor deck. The StayFit centre is on the same floor, open 24 hours, with treadmills, an elliptical, a recumbent cycle, one Peloton bike, weight machines, free weights and mats. There is no full spa on site — Hyatt says so plainly in its own FAQ. Meeting space runs 11,345 square feet across 10 rooms, the largest being the 7,332-square-foot Regency Ballroom, which seats 733. Parking is valet only, with five EV charging stations accessed through valet. Pets are not accepted; service animals only.
Getting There
The Galleria itself is 0.22 miles away and genuinely walkable, as is Williams Tower — the reason to pick this hotel over the downtown Regency. Hyatt puts Hobby (HOU) at 12.9 miles and 25 to 35 minutes, and Bush Intercontinental (IAH) at 18.9 miles and 30 to 40 minutes; independent reviewers report both drives longer, so treat those as optimistic and budget on drive time rather than mileage. Casa Do Brasil is 0.12 miles, the Children’s Museum of Houston 5.05 miles, and the Toyota Center 6.33 miles downtown. Check-in is 3 p.m., check-out noon.
