Location

The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress sits on 1,500 acres just minutes from Walt Disney World’s main entrance. Despite the proximity to Disney, the resort feels worlds apart — the sprawling grounds, mature landscaping, and resort-style amenities create a self-contained vacation destination. Universal Orlando is about 15 minutes north, SeaWorld is 10 minutes south, and Orlando International Airport is approximately 25 minutes east.

The Property

The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is Orlando’s premier non-Disney resort, and it has been for decades. The centerpiece is the 800,000-gallon lagoon-style pool with 12 waterfalls, two waterslides, a sundeck, and two whirlpools — it is one of the most impressive hotel pools in Florida. The grounds include an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, a full-service spa, miniature golf, nature trails, canoe and kayak rentals, and a 21-acre lake. The resort manages to feel both family-friendly and upscale, which is a difficult balance to strike.

Check-In

Check-in is handled efficiently in the open-air lobby, which overlooks the lagoon pool and lake beyond. Globalist members receive reliable upgrades — the resort’s diverse room inventory means there are meaningful upgrade options available. The staff is friendly and resort-savvy, offering solid recommendations for both on-property activities and nearby theme parks.

Deluxe King

The Deluxe King room is spacious and recently refreshed with a bright, contemporary Florida aesthetic — light wood furnishings, tropical-inspired accents, and large windows. The king bed is comfortable with quality linens, and the room includes a work desk, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, coffee maker, and a balcony overlooking either the pool, lake, or golf course. The rooms are generous by Orlando standards, and the balcony is a nice touch for watching sunsets over the resort grounds.

Bathroom

The bathroom is well-proportioned with a walk-in shower, single vanity, and quality bath amenities. Some room categories include a soaking tub. The finishes are modern and well-maintained, consistent with the resort’s recent renovation.

Views

Lake-view and pool-view rooms are the most desirable. The lake view is serene — a 21-acre lake surrounded by mature cypress trees, often with kayakers or paddle boarders gliding across the water. Pool-view rooms overlook the impressive lagoon complex. On clear nights, you can catch the Disney fireworks from certain vantage points on the property.

Restaurants & Bars

LakeHouse (Breakfast & Dinner)

The resort’s signature restaurant overlooks the lake and serves a generous breakfast buffet alongside à la carte options. The buffet features fresh fruit, made-to-order eggs, waffles, and Florida-inspired dishes. Dinner transitions to an upscale menu of steaks, seafood, and seasonal fare. The lakeside patio is the best seating option.

Cascade Poolside Bar & Grill

A casual poolside option serving burgers, wraps, salads, and frozen cocktails. Exactly what you want when spending a full day at the lagoon pool. The fish tacos are surprisingly good for a pool bar.

On the Rocks

A lobby-level bar and lounge with craft cocktails, local beers, and a relaxed atmosphere. A good spot for a pre-dinner drink or nightcap after a day at the parks.

Bottom Line

The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is the best resort-style hotel near Walt Disney World for travelers who want genuine resort amenities without staying on Disney property. The lagoon pool is spectacular, the golf course is excellent, and the 1,500-acre grounds provide a sense of space and nature that is rare in the Orlando hotel market. The rooms have been nicely updated, and the Globalist benefits add real value. It is the kind of resort where you might find yourself skipping a park day to enjoy the property — and that is the highest compliment you can pay an Orlando hotel.
